Paradise takes on a whole new meaning after discovering the breathtaking and remote Nuguria Islands. Cruise around spectacular South Bougainville whilst exploring an array of pristine islands and atolls.
Return charter flights ex Cairns ARE INCLUDED in the tariff. This itinerary is provided as example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. Helicopter flights can be purchased additional to the indicated tariff as a package or individually.
ITINERARY
Welcome Aboard
The adventure begins with a short, privately chartered flight from Cairns to beautiful Buka Island, surrounded by crystal-clear waters and pristine white-sand beaches. Upon arrival, our crew will welcome you aboard the luxurious True North with cocktails and refreshments.
Nissan Islands
Wake up in a different world: the enchanting Nissan Islands. As you step onto these elevated islands, you’ll be greeted by a serene inner lagoon and pristine landscapes. Also known as Green Island, the Nissan Islands are steeped in history from their role in World War II. Your day begins with a guided tour of the islands, revealing their historical significance and natural splendor, before the adventure continues with snorkelling and diving in the untouched waters, exploring vibrant coral reefs and marine life.
Nuguria
Today we explore the Nuguria Islands - a stunning cluster of over 30 small islets. Your journey begins on the main island, home to a close-knit community of only 1000 people. With a complex cultural history, including the tale of an Australian who once declared himself the King of Nuguria, Nuguria also offers an abundance of snorkelling and diving opportunities with the chance to get up close and personal with the abundant marine life.
Carteret Islands
The Carteret Islands is a captivating atoll rich in both culture and natural beauty. Your day unfolds with a visit to these low-lying islands and the people who inhabit them, where you’ll witness firsthand their unique way of life. Here, you’ll discover the natural beauty and cultural richness that define the Careret Islands. Then, it’s time to immerse yourself in the vibrant underwater world with snorkelling and diving adventures before unwinding with a beach swim and sunset drinks. Bliss.
Pok Pok Islands
Today’s adventure takes you to Pok Pok Island, where you’re greeted with a vibrant welcome sing sing; a traditional celebration that immerses you in the local culture from the moment you step ashore. Engage with the friendly locals, join their dances, explore their crafts, and perhaps even purchase unique artifacts to commemorate your visit. Pok Pok Island promises a lively blend of cultural interaction and aquatic exploration, with snorkelling and diving experiences also on offer.
South Bougainville
Uncover the secrets of South Bougainville, guided by a knowledgeable local from the Bougainville community. Today will be a journey of discovery as you search for Japanese bunkers and gun emplacements hidden in the lush landscapes. For those up for some adventure beneath the waves, indulge in wreck diving where you can explore submerged history in the turquoise waters. It’s no wonder our local guides describe this region as the hidden gem of Bougainville.
Laughlan Atoll
Day 6 brings you to Laughlan Atoll, renowned for its skilled canoe builders and lively island culture. Begin your day with a visit to the village, where you’ll witness the craftsmanship of local artisans as they construct traditional canoes — a longstanding tradition of the Laughlan people. Immerse yourself in the rhythms of daily life, interacting with friendly locals and gaining insights into their unique traditions and customs. After exploring the village, venture into the surrounding waters for snorkelling and diving adventures, discovering the colorful marine life that thrives in these pristine atoll waters.
Dechateau & Panasia Islands
Wake up in the incredibly picturesque Karst Islands where you’ll have the option to join a short hike into a cave system, relax on the stunning white beach or dive, snorkel or fish in the channels between these islands. Then head to a tiny island in the afternoon for a swim, sunset cocktails and canapes.
Marovo Lagoon
Join the crew as we continue to explore the Uepi/Marovo area. Don your mask and snorkel and drift over shallow reef. The adventure boats will also venture outside the lagoons on fishing and diving excursions. A visit ashore provides opportunity to experience idyllic Island life – the ‘locals’ will welcome you on the beach, treat with impromptu singing (and laughing) and then invite all to stroll amongst their huts. Our crew will also take the opportunity to deliver appreciated resources to the local school before the adventure boats are away again. In the afternoon you can discover stunning coral reef inside Marovo Lagoon or experience the thrill of a high-speed drift dive in the Mongo Passage. Wherever you go, exploring this part of the Solomon Islands is bound to provide lasting memories!
