day 01
Welcome Aboard

Welcome Aboard

Embark on your luxury adventure from Perth, the sun-soaked capital of Western Australia. Known for its expansive landscape and sparse population, WA offers a truly unique blend of urban sophistication and remote, untouched wilderness.

Perth shines as a modern, vibrant city, consistently celebrated among the World's Most Liveable Cities - what better place to kick off your cruise? After soaking in the local scene, a brief flight whisks you to Esperance, a gem of the state's breathtaking south coast. Here, you'll be brought onboard the TRUE NORTH II, where luxury and adventure await.

day 02
The Recherche Archipelago

The Recherche Archipelago

Discover the wonders of the Recherche Archipelago, a majestic array of over 100 islands and islets, as you journey 230km from Esperance towards the Great Australian Bite. Middle Island, the largest of the chain, is home to the enchanting Lake Hillier, famed for its vivid pink waters that create a striking contrast against the deep blue of the Southern Ocean.
Savour a delectable lunch as the TRUE NORTH II cruises to Woody Island. Named for its impressive woodland, Woody Island stands out in the archipelago for its lush, tall trees. Meander through the island's extensive walking trails, mingle with the friendly local birdlife, bask in the presence of leisurely lizards, or immerse yourself in the idyllic waters of Shearwater Bay. For an aquatic adventure, follow the interpretive snorkel trail to discover the vibrant underwater ecosystem. And for those eager to cast a line, our adventure boats are at the reading for your angling adventure.

day 03
Duke of Orleans Bay

Duke of Orleans Bay

A short overnight cruise will take us to our anchorage at the secluded Duke of Orleans Bay. This tranquil haven plays host to playful spirited New Zealand fur seals and schools of bottlenose dolphins. Explore the underwater world on a dive or snorkel, enjoy a swim in the crystal clear waters, or bask leisurely under the shade of our vibrant umbrellas on deck. For a touch of exploration, paddle out on a stand-up paddle board or glide along the coastline in one of our twin kayaks.
Anglers can anticipate the thrill of the chase with fishing expeditions aimed at reeling in local favourites like herring, tailor, and whiting, or venture to the deeper reefs in pursuit of the esteemed pink snapper and robust dhufish.
When you're not out adventuring, relax in the air-conditioned TRUE NORTH II and indulge in our exquisite dining. As the day unwinds, find your spot at our open-air bar, an ideal spot to watch another spectacular West Coast sunset.

When you’re not on excursion, relax onboard TRUE NORTH and enjoy our renowned cuisine in air-conditioned comfort. The licensed open-air bar will definitely be the spot to witness another spectacular ‘West Coast Sunset’.

day 04
Bremer Bay

Bremer Bay

Embark on a journey to the Bremer Bay canyon, a marvel of the deep lying 70 kilometres from the quaint coastal town of Bremer Bay. This ecological treasure, only recently unveiled by marine scientists, thrives with life - especially during the summer when Antarctic currents infuse the canyon with a bounty of nutrient-rich waters. This phenomenon attracts an impressive seasonal gathering of killer whales - part of the Southern Hemisphere's largest congregation - alongside sharks, dolphins, sperm whales, and elusive giant squid.
Anchor down in the turquoise waters of Bremer Bay, a locale celebrated for its unspoiled, sugary beaches. Enjoy an afternoon of leisure: sunbathe on the velvety sands, swim in the warm clear ocean, snorkel amongst vibrant marine life, or enjoy the simple pleasure of fishing in these serene waters.

day 05

Begin your morning aboard TRUE NORTH II with a vibrant selection from our fruit platter, complemented by a lavish breakfast to energise you for the day ahead. Your destination: Albany, Western Australia's earlier colonial settlement, steeped in history that predates even Perth and Fremantle. This town, known as the last glimpse of home for WW1 troops embarking on their journey, allows you to delve into its rich tapestry of Aboriginal and European histories. Visit the National ANZAC centre and see the poignant tribute to the ANZAC legacy.
You'll also have the opportunity to visit Albany's historic Whaling Station. Explore a historically preserved whale processing factory and whale chasing ship, the only experience of its kind in the world. Or, join our knowledgeable guides for a fishing session targeting herring, King George whiting, flathead, cobbler, and pink snapper.
Then it's time for cocktail hour before another evening of picturesque dining.

day 06
Hamelin Bay

Hamelin Bay

Wake up in tranquil Hamelin Bay and start the day with a choice of sea adventures: an early fishing trip in one of our tenders or a beachside encounter with the friendly local stingrays, who congregate along the water's edge to feed on scraps left by fishermen. It's a snorkeler's dream.
The day continues with a journey into the heart of the Margaret River wine region. Relax in the comfort of our luxury coach and enjoy the engaging commentary as we guide you along the south west wine trail. An exquisite lunch showcases the finest of Margaret River's local farm produce and fresh seafood, harvested right from the area's pristine ocean.

day 07
Cape Naturaliste

Cape Naturaliste

Begin the day with a leisurely walk around the rugged coast of Cape Naturaliste, along walking tracks that deliver some of the most breathtaking views in the Margaret River region. Adventure boats will meander along the scenic coastline -- keep an eye out for the local colony of New Zealand fur seals!
In the afternoon, the TRUE NORTH II anchors at Eagle Bay. This long stretch of white sandy beach skirts stunning azure water reminiscent of the Mediterranean - minus the crowds! Finish off the day with refreshments and hors d'oeuvres on the beach, toasting to a brilliant West Aussie sunset!

day 08
Swim with Dolphins

Swim with Dolphins

Have you ever dreamed of swimming with wild dolphins? Experience an exhilarating wildlife encounter that will stay with you forever. We'll provide all the gear, including wetsuits, so you can focus on the main event - interacting with these playful creatures in their natural habitat, in the sheltered waters of Rockingham's bays and islands.
Then we’re off to Rottnest Island, home to the quokka, a small wallaby-like marsupial that loves to take a selfie or two. There'll be plenty of opportunities for beach combing, relaxed snorkelling in waist-deep water, or even joining the hunt for the catch of the day! For those preferring the land, bus or bike your way around the island at your own leisure.

True North Tales

Returning to International

True North’s founding director Craig Howson and managing director Chad Avenell, recently met with local representatives ahead of recommencing Indonesian itineraries in 2023. Watch the video above to discover how True North ensures smooth operation well in advance of departure.

Time to Book Ahead

Hear from someone who truly knows about the value of booking ahead. “Cheggers” has travelled on the TRUE NORTH more than anyone else!

True North Sails into 30 Years

True North Adventure Cruises - has sailed into 30 years of continuous operations. The now revered adventure-cruise operator first cruised Western Australia’s remote Kimberley coast during 1987 when founding director Craig Howson commenced fishing type charters along a coastline that was and still is largely inaccessible from land.

The Helicopter

Adding another dimension to the adventure, most cruise options on the TRUE NORTH feature an on-board helicopter! Carrying guests in air conditioned comfort, the ship’s helicopter provides unique opportunity to witness grandeur; unique opportunity to fish billabongs that have never been fished; unique opportunity to discover your very own wilderness!

Myles Pollard's Fishing Adventure

There is nothing better than a day out on the water, especially when the fish are biting! Fishing on-board the TRUE NORTH is a much-favoured activity both with guests who have never picked up a rod before and, with those who have "caught them all!” Our guides encourage everybody on-board to “give it a go” and the TRUE NORTH’s multiple adventure boats never fail to bring back a swag of ‘fishing tales’! Stories about the ladies who out-fish the boys are pretty common, humorous equipment failures also come to note on a regular basis, then there are the ‘birthday fish’, the ‘monster fish’ and of course, the ones that got away! Our guides have seen and heard it all! Watch the video to find out more about actor Myles Pollard's fishing adventure!

TRUE NORTH Impresses Again

The TRUE NORTH has once again impressed on the world stage coming second in the 2020 Traveller Made Brand Storytelling competition. Traveller Made is Europe’s largest travel consortium and its members represent the very best in luxury travel providers and suppliers. The group’s inaugural Brand Storytelling competition was an opportunity for leading travel brand’s to showcase “the story behind their brand” and, the competition attracted entries from some of the world’s most respected travel brands. In such esteemed company, True North’s marketing team was especially pleased to receive this additional acknowledgement.

Adventure En Plein Air

West Australian artist Jacob 'Shakey' Butler joined the TRUE NORTH earlier this season and discovered the Kimberley's raw beauty. As the artist in residence, Jacob set up his canvas on remote beaches, beside freshwater billabongs and on-deck surrounded by pindan-coloured gorges. Watch the video above to hear Jacob describing how the Kimberley inspires the art of adventure.

Catriona Rowntree Talks With Craig Howson

A commonly asked question is “When is the best time to see the Kimberley?” And the answer is “The Kimberley is always at its best!” However certain times of the year can make it easier to satisfy particular interest. For example, if you would like to see plenty of whale action then departures in August and September are definitely for you! From late July humpback and southern right whales reach the Kimberley after swimming-up the west coast to reach breeding grounds in the north and it’s very common for guests to get great views of whales breaching and basking on the surface.
