‛Taking a dip’ takes on new meaning after adventuring to the spectacular Rowley Shoals. Witness the breathtaking vibrant colours of a coral wonderland and fish an array of delicious species in a playground only visited by a lucky few in the world.
The Rowley Shoals feature exaggerated corals, mind-blowing fish life and stunning underwater clarity; but perhaps more important than anything else – even today they are visited by only a fortunate few!
Just an overnight cruise from Broome, the Rowley Shoals include some of the world’s most-pristine coral reef and, a Rowley Shoals cruise is a must-do experience for any adventurer with an interest in marine life.
This small ship cruise features guided underwater tours led by a marine biologist and a team of underwater naturalists. Divers and snorkelers alike will revel in a diverse wonderland of coral habitats including maze-like lagoons, tidal canyons and breathtaking walls. And keen anglers will match wits with blue-water pelagics such as black marlin, sailfish, wahoo and yellow-fin tuna.
Wander the enticing shores of Bedwell Island, see nesting red-tailed tropicbirds and indulge with sunset drinks on the beach – 300 kilometres from the West Australian coast. This Australian cruise favourite features Western Australia’s premiere coral playground – the protected waters of the Rowley Shoals Marine Park.

Welcome Aboard
Welcome aboard the True North in Broome for a cocktail and dinner before an overnight steam to the Rowley Shoals.
Clerke Reef
Wake up at glorious Clerke Reef and discover its huge lagoon and extensive outer reef. Guided by our expert crew, snorkelers and divers will be able to explore the crystal-clear waters willed with spectacular clouds of fish and corals and beachcombers can explore Bedwell Island. Fishers will also be able to catch and release in the lagoon using eco-friendly tackle. Only to finish the night with the delights of the galley and your first spectacular Rowley sunset.Wake up at glorious Clerke Reef and discover its huge lagoon and extensive outer reef. The Aquarium
Start today with a visit to the spectacular Aquarium. The water is only waist-deep however, the experience is truly once-in-a-lifetime. Discover brilliantly coloured corals, giant clams and more than 600 of the world’s most beautiful fish species that call this place home. After lunch, we’ll change gears for a high-speed snorkel drift through the outer reef guided by our expert crew members. Followed by an anchorage in the swimming pool-like waters of Clerke Lagoon.
The Outer Reef
After an early morning swim on the deck, set off on adventure boats to explore the outer reef, immersing yourself in a totally different snorkeling experience. The sheer coral walls teeming life will take your breath away. The fishing boats will search for pelagic species such as Spanish mackerel, giant dog toothed tuna, wahoo and sailfish. Not to mention the chance of close encounters with humpback whales and manta rays. Finish the day with sunset drinks on the beach and one of our famous Island Parties. Then it’s back to the ultimate comfort of True North and another perfect night of 360° stars reflected in a glassy ocean at Clerke Lagoon.
Bedwell Island
Spend the day exploring the outer reef and ‘The Maze’ which is an assortment of coral bombies inside the lagoon. You’ll also have the option to just explore the island, stand-up paddle board, kayak, or have one last fish. Then we overnight steam to Broome as we watch the Rowleys merge into a blazing western sky.
Return to Broome
Arrive early in Broome for a morning disembarkment before a transfer to the airport or accommodation.

The route, the scenery, the combination of boating, boat excursions and heli-flights – all along with the most amazing scenery, hardly any other tourists, the beautiful boat, the amazing lovely knowledgeable crew and the great group of guests – it was almost too much to take in – all of my senses awakened and my heart and soul took in all this beauty and experiences – a once in a lifetime trip!

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I take on a Rowley Shoals Cruise?
Snorkellers only need to bring their swimming outfit - complimentary snorkelling equipment is available on the TRUE NORTH. Divers normally prefer to bring their own equipment however hire equipment can be arranged in advance of departure. SCUBA tanks and weight belts are available onboard. An underwater camera is recommended.
When should I visit the Rowley Shoals?
The TRUE NORTH only visits the Rowley Shoals during the months of September, October and November. These months are normally associated with “the doldrums” – a period of light winds and calm seas.
Where is the Rowley Shoals Marine Park?
The Rowley Shoals Marine Park consist of 2 coral atoll - Imperieuse Reef and Clerke Reef. The atolls lie on the edge of the continental shelf 200 nautical miles west of Broome.
How long does it take to get to the Rowley Shoals?
The TRUE NORTH normally departs Broome at 1800. After enjoying dinner and an overnight sleep you will arrive at the Rowley Shoals at around 0800 the next morning.
