Your 7 night Kimberley cruise itinerary
Welcome Aboard
Step aboard the True North in Broome, where our attentive crew will greet you with a refreshing cocktail. As you settle into the luxurious surroundings, enjoy the exceptional onboard amenities, including gourmet dining and spacious lounges. Then, a relaxing overnight steam to the serene Yampi Sound, where your adventure begins.
Buccaneer Archipelago
Today, we will explore the breathtaking archipelago of over 800 islands, known for its rich biodiversity, lush mangroves, and pristine white sandy beaches - home to a diverse array of wildlife. Experience stunning scenic flights over the region, including an exhilarating flyover of the iconic Horizontal Falls. Our journey also includes fishing and sightseeing tours led by the ship’s knowledgeable naturalists.
Doubtful Bay
With the sun rising, we’ll ride the tide down Sale River, where our experienced guides will help you target the ravenous barramundi, or embark on a Heli Fishing adventure to a secret, remote location. Later, we’ll lunch at Montgomery Reef where you’ll witness a spectacular 140 square miles of coral reef rising right out of the ocean, home to turtles, dugongs, crocodiles, and a whole world of remarkable sea creatures.
The Prince Regent River
At Prince Regent River, you’ll have your pick of unmissable fishing spots, targeting mangrove jack and fingermark bream. Then, at King Cascade, we’ll manoeuvre the vessel right under the falls for an iconic True North experience. Later, we’ll head out for a bush walk that leads to incredible views and an equally incredible swim in a picture-perfect billabong, or visit the spectacular Amphitheatre Waterfall.
The Hunter River
With stunning red cliffs set against rainforest and mangroves, the Hunter River offers the perfect setting for mud-crabbing, bird-watching, and exploring. Embark on an exhilarating hike to the hidden Jackson Falls, or see more breathtaking views from the helicopter. End the day with a sunset drink on Naturaliste Island before settling in for an overnight cruise to Vansittart Bay.
Eagle Falls
Today, we’ll visit the Gwion Gwion, also known as “Bradshaw” rock art - ancient paintings that may be the oldest known to man. Afterwards, fish for mackerel in Vansittart Bay, take a helicopter to Eagle Falls for a picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery, or tender to local beaches and creeks.
The King George River
As soon as the tide is high enough at the King George, we’ll cross the sandbar at the mouth to reveal even more breathtaking river vistas. Our journey upstream will take us to the spectacular King George Falls. The captain will position True North’s bow directly underneath the falls, giving our guests the shower of a lifetime. Then, hop in the ship’s helicopter to enjoy a magnificent bird’s-eye view of this Kimberley icon.
Transfer to Kununurra
Your courtesy coach will transfer you to Kununurra, but your adventure doesn’t have to end here. Our crew will be eagerly anticipating the next opportunity to welcome you aboard the True North, ready to create more unforgettable memories. We thought that the True North cruise (our first) was all about seeing the Kimberley from a coastal perspective. However on reflection It has been more about a special experience – not only seeing spectacular landscapes but also gaining insight into history of the region and its people. We are coming away with a feeling of being immersed in many aspects of the history & culture of our ancestors and its first people. Chris masterfully facilitated this wonderful experience. Well what can I say…. The trip just blew me away!!! It was such an amazing time and definitely the icing on the cake after my 32nd travel through Australia! The route, the scenery, the combination of boating, boat excursions and heli-flights – all along with the most amazing scenery, hardly any other tourists, the beautiful boat, the amazing lovely knowledgeable crew and the great group of guests – it was almost too much to take in – all of my senses awakened and my heart and soul took in all this beauty and experiences – a once in a lifetime trip!

Never seen the Kimberley Coast before, True North made it possible to access remote passages and fiords of the remote western Australian coast line. The on board helicopter was a seamless transport to see the Kimberley coast from above and gave a complete magnification of the journey, as well as permitting access to the remote indigenous cave art consented by local indigenous communities. The Montgomery Reef over 100 kms long is a powerful natural wonder that rises from the sea as the 11 metre tide drops. Both at water level at the Cruise ship and from the helicopter this amazing sight will be my highlight along with the major waterfalls enroute which we encounter as a cooling natural rainfall in the 30 degree daytime. The compact cruise ship True North boasted hotel room comfort. Food was restaurant quality embellished by the catch of the day. I loved the spacious lounge and forward deck. Finally, the major stand out was the genuine staff service culture and friendliness, I think very hard to beat. A genuinely unique experience. Highly recommended.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone... Happy 30th Anniversary. EVERY DAY on TRUE NORTH was full of treasured memories. One memory I would like to share with you was the experience I had on a "Ladies Only" fishing trip. It was such FUN!! Many FIRSTS for me – NEVER been fishing in a boat before, NEVER drank champagne holding a fishing line in one hand and a glass in the other and NEVER caught a Barramundi before and then that evening, at dinner, got to wear "the cap", because my catch was the first Barra caught that day. Hard to beat this day, but it was only one of many. Your helicopter BBQ's are also very memorable experiences and could we ever forget the oysters, so fresh and eaten with a squeeze of lemon, just standing on the beach and eating freshly caught mud crabs on the beach around the bonfire.

I would like to thank The Haines Group for the opportunity we have recently experienced aboard the ‘True North’. The 7-day Snap Shot Tour through the Kimberley’s is not a holiday rather a 5-star Adventure exploring a part of Australia that is relatively untouched. Amazing History, Fishing and Hiking through Gorges, add to this great food and people, not to mention the ‘True North ‘itself! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a week.
Very different from the Kimberley, but just as awesome and enjoyable.
