Will my fare be guaranteed once my deposit is paid?
Absolutely! Extras including taxes and fuel surcharges are not passed on to our guests. The price you see is the price you pay.
Can guests do their own laundry? Are there laundry facilities on-board?
The True North’s hospitality attendants will happily attend to your laundry needs. Ironing is available upon request.
What is the standard of dress when on-board the TRUE NORTH?
Your time on-board the TRUE NORTH is about being relaxed and comfortable. Casual clothing is always the favoured attire. Select active options for the day and smart casual for the evening. Bring a cardigan/sweater for cooler evenings. Shoes are not worn Bring a sturdy pair of walking shoes, and don’t forget your bathers!
Can I board the boat earlier than the embarkation time?
This is not generally very practical, the crew are normally preparing for your arrival. If you arrive prior to embarkation in Broome we recommend that you take advantage of the Artisan Lounge in Chinatown. You can leave your luggage and enjoy a wander around before your transfer to the TRUE NORTH at 1600. If you have an extended wait time between your arrival in Kununurra and the 1530 transfer, please contact our sales team in Broome for transit package information.
Can I BYO?
The TRUE NORTH is fully licensed and a wide selection of wines, beer, spirits, soft drinks and juices are stocked. BYO drinks are generally not permitted - should you desire a particular beverage that is not shown on the current bar list, please contact our sales and reservations team. Corkage is applied to BYO drinks. Contact our reservations team at experiences@truenorth.com.au for our latest wine list.
What is included in the cost?
Adventures on the TRUE NORTH include all adventure boat excursions & activities, destination-inspired dining and non-alcoholic refreshments throughout the day, all fishing & snorkeling equipment and cylinders & weight belts (on dive trips). Complimentary café style coffees and tea are available all day. Scenic helicopter flights, visitor pass fee, adventure wear and other purchases made on-board, and alcoholic beverages (except as offered on special excursions) are additional.
What is the standard of cuisine?
Easy – simply expect the finest in modern Australian cuisine! Special dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notice.
Why the ‘no shoes onboard’ policy?
This policy assists with safety and promoting a casual atmosphere onboard as well as keeping the magnificent TRUE NORTH in showroom condition. However footwear for shore excursions should be included.
What medical supplies should I pack?
We recommend that guests bring their own personal first aid items and personal medications sufficient for the duration of travel. For any unforeseen incidents the TRUE NORTH has a fully equipped RFDS Medical chest on-board.
Are there power points in each cabin?
Yes, each cabin is equipped with 110v and 240v Australian power points. The voltage will also support personal electronic devices such as hair straighteners and shavers. There is also a standard hotel-style hairdryer in every cabin.
What species of fish are commonly caught?
Only the highest quality in eating fish – mangrove jack, coral trout, finger-mark bream, monster golden snapper & the revered barramundi are caught in tropical waters. In ‘cooler climes’ West Australian jewfish, pink snapper, emperors and whiting are always popular.
Do you welcome children on board?
Children are certainly welcome on the TRUE NORTH and TRUE NORTH II. Being adventure based, if the children are old enough to participate, we have a range of optional activities on offer to entertain the whole family. Separate dining times and child-appropriate meals are available with prior arrangement as well.
Children over the age of 3 years are permitted onboard the TRUE NORTH and TRUE NORTH II:
All children included on your booking remain your responsibility at all times during the cruise.
We do carry safety equipment suitable for children however parents are advised that there are no child-minding services onboard, children must be supervised at all times and must not disrupt the enjoyment of fellow passengers.
Our cruises are not suitable for children allowed to play unsupervised.
Children 12 years and older are deemed adults, therefore must occupy a normal passenger berth and full cruise fare applies.
Are transfers to & from the vessel included in the cruise cost?
Guests make their own way to the TRUE NORTH on the day of embarkation. Upon disembarkation in Dampier, you will be transferred to your accommodation or to the airport in Karratha, arriving at approximately 09:00.
Does SCUBA diving feature on this itinerary?
Absolutely! Diving the Batavia wreck, Steep Point and the world famous Ningaloo Reef are just a few of the many diving opportunities on this cruise. A limited selection of diving equipment is available for hire onboard with prior arrangement. However, bringing your own personal equipment will ensure a perfect fit. Not a certified diver? Don’t worry, the snorkeling is just as good!

Yes. There is up to eight different scenic flight options on this 10-night itinerary, as well as land and water-based activities.

How many optional ‘heli-flights’ are offered?
We offer approximately 20 different flights on our 13-night Kimberley Ultimate itinerary and around 17 flights on our 7- or 10- night itineraries. Heli-packages, a selection of flights the pilot recommends are 'not-to-be-missed' are a great way to maximise your enjoyment and can be booked once on-board.
What time is embarkation & disembarkation?
Embarkation is at 1700hrs & disembarkation proceedings are normally completed by 0800hrs. We recommend arriving at your embarkation point the day before or no later than noon on the day of departure. Why not stay a few nights and see what the Kimberley has to offer? Our sales and reservation staff can assist with pre and post accommodation and sightseeing options.
Are transfers to & from the vessel included in the cost?
Yes! If joining in Broome, you will be collected from your nominated accommodation, Broome airport or our office from 16:00. Collections from Kununurra (if joining the TRUE NORTH in Wyndham) will start from 15:30. On the day of disembarkation guests will be transferred by coach in Broome or Wyndham/Kununurra to accommodation/airport.
Does SCUBA diving feature on this cruise?
Crocodiles are a viewing highlight on our Kimberley Wilderness Adventures however they tend to be a little territorial when it comes to getting in the water! Diving is an option on our Adventure South West, West Coast Explorer, Coral Atoll, and all West Papua and Papua New Guinea itineraries.
What is the weather like in the Kimberley?
The Kimberley region of Western Australia has a tropical climate with two very distinct seasons. From May to September, the Dry Season is characterised by clear blue skies, mostly light winds and balmy days, with some chilly nights. The weather is very stable and outdoor activities can be confidently planned in advance. Temperatures in the Dry Season range between 26 and 36 degrees in March and April, 14 and 30 degrees from June until August and 19 to 32 degrees during September.
The Wet Season spans from October to April. This is a time of increased humidity and increased rainfall.

The most commonly caught fish in Indonesia are pelagic species such as Spanish mackerel, tuna & sailfish. We’ve got all the fishing gear you need onboard!

Guests will be collected in Darwin city centre at approximately 0600 for a charter flight. It is HIGHLY recommended that guests arrive in Darwin at least the night prior to departure. After disembarkation in Indonesia, the charter flight back to Darwin will bring guests back by 1700 where they'll need to clear customs and immigration. A late evening flight, or overnight accommodation in Darwin is recommended.
Are transfers to & from the vessel included in the cost?
Included in the cost is the early morning coach transfer from Darwin City centre hotels to Darwin International airport for check-in as well as local transfers to and from the airport in Indonesia. On arrival back in Darwin (approximate arrival time 1700) guests make their own way from the airport as the time it takes for each guest to clear customs and immigration varies greatly.

Absolutely! There are fantastic opportunities to explore the many coral reefs of these amazing islands. A limited selection of diving equipment is available for hire onboard with prior arrangement. Do I need a passport for this voyage?
Yes. Please ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity on it after your return travel date. We will ask for this information 3-4 months prior to embarkation. General information concerning travel in West Papua will be included with your Guest Documents.

Are heli flights available on this itinerary?
Yes, there are a couple of optional heli-flights available. Why not fly to the Hunter Valley for some wine tasting. If enjoying nature is your preference, then join us on a breathtaking flight over the northern beaches and waterways of Sydney, the harbour, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Hawkesbury River.
Is a special meal organized for Christmas or New Year's Eve dinner?
Yes, our chefs always prepare signature meals to celebrate both occasions.
Are transfers to & from the vessel included in the cruise cost?
No. Guests make their way to the wharf where the vessel is docked. Directions will be included with your adventure documents. Upon disembarkation we are happy to organise a taxi transfer if needed.
Are transfers to & from the vessel included in the cost?
Guests are all collected from a central Adelaide hotel via our arranged private charter, and we spend a lovely day enjoying the Barossa Valley Wine Region before making our way to the TRUE NORTH in the afternoon.
Upon disembarkation in Ceduna, you will be flown by private charter back to Adelaide, arriving at approximately 11:30.
Does SCUBA diving feature on this itinerary?
There is the opportunity to cage-dive with the great white sharks where all equipment, including wetsuits is provided. Scuba gear is otherwise not required.
Are all land based activities included in the fare?
Yes! However there are many tempting opportunities to purchase local produce during shore excursions - especially during our time in the Barossa and whilst we are exploring Kangaroo Island. Hence it’s always a good idea to bring some spending money.
What is the weather like in South Australia during January?
Our unique scheduling ensures that the TRUE NORTH is always in the right place at the right time. We expect warm conditions with not more than moderate winds. A light spray jacket is handy for the adventure boats but you can leave the ‘warm woolies’ at home.
Will the helicopter accompany this cruise?
No. The land based activities on this itinerary do not require the use of a helicopter. You truly will feel like you are on a land & sea safari!
Is the flight to Esperance included?
Yes. Guests are to make their own way to Perth Domestic Airport on the morning of embarkation for the included charter flight to Esperance and transfer to the TRUE NORTH.
Disembarkation in Fremantle will be from 0800hrs.
Are all land based activities included in the fare?
Yes! However there are many tempting opportunities to purchase local produce during shore excursions - especially during our time in the Margaret River region and whilst we are exploring Rottnest Island. Hence it’s always a good idea to bring some spending money.
Will there be the opportunity to sample local wines?
Yes! There is the opportunity to visit West Australian wineries and sample a glass or two of this region's renowned wines.
