signatureluxurytravel.com.au | True North launches Great Barrier Reef conservation expedition
In partnership with The Great Barrier Reef Foundation, True North will host a one-in-a-lifetime conservation expedition across the reef in December 2023.
Adventurers, conservationists and passionate protectors of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef will be delighted to learn that luxury cruise line, True North, has launched an exclusive expedition across the northernmost tip of the Great Barrier Reef aboard TRUE NORTH II. Departing in December 2023, the Great Barrier Reef Conservation Expedition is hosted in partnership with The Great Barrier Reef Foundation. Guests will have the opportunity to engage with marine researchers and conservationists aboard TRUE NORTH II, such as co-curators Hayley Baillie, a diver, passionate underwater photographer and Great Barrier Reef Foundation Board member; Richard Fitzpatrick, a marine biologist and Emmy Award-winning cinematographer who has been uncovering the mysteries of whale shark movements across the Great Barrier Reef; and Dr Mary Bonin, a marine scientist from the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
Great Barrier Reef Conservation Expedition
Over eight nights, the inaugural conservation expedition will sail south from the Torres Strait Islands to Cairns, mimicking the movements of some of the Reef’s most majestic animals. Guests will have the opportunity to snorkel and dive through diverse coral reefs, witness untouched and remote marine environments, and follow the tracks of green sea turtles, visiting their nurseries, tagging whale sharks, and searching for the elusive Omura whale from the skies.
This exclusive sailing is limited to just 20 guests, and departs on 2 December 2023 from Thursday Island, Queensland. The sailing will then embark on a journey through Raine Island National Park, Wreck Bay, Sandbanks National Park and Lizard Island before arriving in Cairns on 9 December 2023.
