The sun feels different after you see it light up the Kimberley coast for 13 nights. On this expedition, you’ll experience the spectacular might of the King George Falls, the Hunter River, the Prince Regent River, Montgomery Reef and the extraordinary Buccaneer Archipelago.
Please note: This itinerary is provided as example only – prevailing conditions, local arrangements and indeed, what we discover on the day, may cause variation. Helicopter flights can be purchased additional to the indicated tariff as a package or individually.

Welcome Aboard
Start your adventure by joining our coach in Kununurra, before arriving on board the magnificent True North to enjoy the luxuries of our renowned galley. Then, enjoy a relaxing overnight journey to the remarkable King George River.
The King George River
As soon as the tide is high enough at the King George, we’ll cross the sandbar at the mouth to reveal even more breathtaking river vistas. Our journey upstream will take us to the spectacular King George Falls. The captain will position True North’s bow directly underneath the falls, giving our guests the shower of a lifetime. Then, hop in the ship’s helicopter to enjoy a magnificent bird’s-eye view of this Kimberley icon.
The Drysdale River
At Drysdale, your day begins with the thrill of fishing for mangrove jack and goldies, offering the chance to reel in some impressive catches. Afterwards, embark on an exciting upriver adventure boat ride, where you’ll savour freshly baked scones and traditional billy tea as you take in the scenic beauty around you. Your exploration continues with a visit to an ancient rock art gallery in Vansittart Bay, guided by the ship’s naturalist.
Eagle Falls
Today, we’ll visit the Gwion Gwion, also known as “Bradshaw” rock art - ancient paintings that may be the oldest known to man. Afterwards, fish for mackerel in Vansittart Bay, take a helicopter to Eagle Falls for a picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery, or tender to local beaches and creeks.
The Mitchell River
Today, we’ll head upriver to the scenic Surveyors Creek known for its big crocs. Here you’ll join the hunt for barramundi or helicopter over the ancient land towards the Mitchell Falls. Then join us for our pearl and diamond party. Enjoy a glass of bubbles while trying on exquisite pieces created by the artistes at Allure, Jewels of the Kimberley and Kimberley Fine Diamonds.
Swift Bay
Wake up in the stunning turquoise waters of Swift Bay. After an early breakfast, we’ll hunt for the region’s famous black-lip oyster. Next, we’ll explore nearby Wandjina rock art galleries, followed by sunset drinks on the picturesque Winyalkin Island.
The Roe River
Today, we’ll explore the Roe River, renowned for its exceptional barramundi fishing and one of the highest crocodile counts in the Kimberley. After a thrilling morning on the river, we’ll sail into the picturesque Prince Frederick Harbour, where you’ll visit a fascinating Wandjina art site on Art Island. In the afternoon, the helicopter will be at your disposal to whisk you away to the Kimberley’s highest peaks. From this breathtaking vantage point, you’ll enjoy a stunning sunset over Prince Frederick Harbour, with a selection of cheese and bubbles.
The Hunter River
With stunning red cliffs set against rainforest and mangroves, the Hunter River offers the perfect setting for mudcrabbing, bird-watching, and exploring. Embark on an exhilarating hike to the hidden Jackson Falls, or see more breathtaking views from the helicopter. In the afternoon, visit one of the Kimberley’s most historic sites - Phillip Parker King’s boab tree.
The Prince Regent River
In the heart of the Kimberley, the mighty Prince Regent offers unmissable fishing spots, where you can target mangrove jack and fingermark bream. As we sail to King Cascade, the True North will maneuver right beneath the falls for a truly iconic experience. Then, embark on a bush walk leading to a stunning, picture-perfect billabong for a refreshing swim, or explore the spectacular Amphitheatre Waterfall. We’ll then anchor off Camp Creek for a tranquil overnight stay on the True North.
Champagne Sunrise
Wake up in the most spectacular way possible, with a heli-flight to a champagne sunrise on the top of a mountain. Then, explore Camp Creek before another breathtaking helicopter flight to a picnic where our chefs will cook destination-inspired dishes alongside a crystalclear billabong. The chopper will then take us to several remote rock art sites only accessible by helicopter.
Montgomery Reef
Today, you’ll have the chance to rise at dawn to catch barramundi at “Three Ways,” followed by a bush walk to Ruby Falls, where you can swim in its refreshing natural rock pool. Then, embark on a Heli Fishing adventure to a secret, remote location. Lunch will be served as we weigh anchor and cruise to another Kimberley icon - Montgomery Reef. Here, you’ll witness a spectacular 140 square miles of coral reef rising right out of the ocean, home to turtles, dugongs, crocodiles, and a whole world of remarkable sea creatures.
Kingfisher Islands
Head out early to fish for trevally, mackerel, ‘goldies’ and leaping queenfish at the Kingfisher Islands, or get in the chopper for more Heli Fishing action. End the day with a cocktail in hand and fine True North dining on board.
Buccaneer Archipelago
Today, we will explore the breathtaking archipelago of over 800 islands, known for its rich biodiversity, lush mangroves, and pristine white sandy beaches - home to a diverse array of wildlife. Experience stunning scenic flights over the region, including an exhilarating flyover of the iconic Horizontal Falls. Our journey also includes fishing and sightseeing tours led by the ship’s knowledgeable naturalists, before we set sail for Broome.

Arrive in Broome for an early morning coach transfer to your accommodation or connecting flights, and know that our crew is already looking forward to the next opportunity to welcome you aboard the True North.

The Heli camping night would have to be the absolute highlight of our trip on Kimberley Ultimate 6. Alan (Pilot) was sooooo good, great knowledge, excellent camp cook, host and fabulous company! Was fun having Chris and Laura (Crew) as well. Was the most beautiful spot up in the top of the Kimberley, scenery and especially the stars in that outback black night. Where else can you step out of the helicopter and jump into a glorious fresh water pool. Sit around a campfire and then into your luxurious stretcher. Felt like we were in a dream!!! The route, the scenery, the combination of boating, boat excursions and heli-flights – all along with the most amazing scenery, hardly any other tourists, the beautiful boat, the amazing lovely knowledgeable crew and the great group of guests – it was almost too much to take in – all of my senses awakened and my heart and soul took in all this beauty and experiences – a once in a lifetime trip!

Never seen the Kimberley Coast before, True North made it possible to access remote passages and fiords of the remote western Australian coast line. The on board helicopter was a seamless transport to see the Kimberley coast from above and gave a complete magnification of the journey, as well as permitting access to the remote indigenous cave art consented by local indigenous communities. The Montgomery Reef over 100 kms long is a powerful natural wonder that rises from the sea as the 11 metre tide drops. Both at water level at the Cruise ship and from the helicopter this amazing sight will be my highlight along with the major waterfalls enroute which we encounter as a cooling natural rainfall in the 30 degree daytime. The compact cruise ship True North boasted hotel room comfort. Food was restaurant quality embellished by the catch of the day. I loved the spacious lounge and forward deck. Finally, the major stand out was the genuine staff service culture and friendliness, I think very hard to beat. A genuinely unique experience. Highly recommended.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone... Happy 30th Anniversary. EVERY DAY on TRUE NORTH was full of treasured memories. One memory I would like to share with you was the experience I had on a "Ladies Only" fishing trip. It was such FUN!! Many FIRSTS for me – NEVER been fishing in a boat before, NEVER drank champagne holding a fishing line in one hand and a glass in the other and NEVER caught a Barramundi before and then that evening, at dinner, got to wear "the cap", because my catch was the first Barra caught that day. Hard to beat this day, but it was only one of many. Your helicopter BBQ's are also very memorable experiences and could we ever forget the oysters, so fresh and eaten with a squeeze of lemon, just standing on the beach and eating freshly caught mud crabs on the beach around the bonfire.

I would like to thank The Haines Group for the opportunity we have recently experienced aboard the ‘True North’. The 7-day Snap Shot Tour through the Kimberley’s is not a holiday rather a 5-star Adventure exploring a part of Australia that is relatively untouched. Amazing History, Fishing and Hiking through Gorges, add to this great food and people, not to mention the ‘True North ‘itself! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a week.
Very different from the Kimberley, but just as awesome and enjoyable.
